{Caught between two selves}

Online conversations with Ben Chia always make me delve deeper into my psyche on long and drawn-out journeys of self-exploration.

Benson: when is my birthday?
Ben Chia: Dunno, but i know its coming soon?
Benson: yeah.
Ben Chia: When?
Benson: i'd sound shameless if i told you. LOL
Ben Chia: Ok den
Benson: but something within me is dying to tell you. LOLOL.
Ben Chia: =.=
Benson: i think my split personalities are gaining minds of their own.
Ben Chia: Just say lah alamak =.=

So much for trying to be discreet.

{How Big's Your Stage?}

I came across a very meaningful catchphrase during Chinese lesson today. I caught it off a commercial that we watched during the lesson, and it can be found by clicking here and selecting "China Central Television".

The catchphrase is, "Everyone has a stage in their hearts. Your stage extends as far as your heart does."

What you can achieve in life is determined by where you think you can reach. So, think big! Be confident and walk where you want to walk. As hard as things might become, just do what you think is right for you. Don't let the talk of others get you down; just be who you want to be. The world just has to learn to deal with it.

All the world's a stage, and all the men and women are merely actors. Act your part just like how you want it. It's your show in the end.

How big is your stage?

{No Inspiration}

Lack of mind juice results in a comatose weblog. I'll be back when my head begins to work for me again.

{We're gonna pump it!}

We had our 7th Prefects Investiture on 9th July 2008. I was very nervous the night before, and I remember myself not being able to sleep well. I felt both incredibly nervous, thinking of what could possibly go wrong, and also of how terribly excited I was. It wasn't a very good sleep in the end.

All our planning, all our effort and all our hard work came down to just one hour. And oh, boy, what an hour it was. Walking down the aisle was incredibly fun, in my opinion. Everything went as we planned it to, and the music that Justin arranged was really great. Handing over was really touching (and entertaining at the same time). Chao Yong rocks, man, lifting my feet clear off the stage. LOL.

Dear Sec Fours, thanks so much for guiding us and helping us get to where we are today. Truth be told, we're all very sad to see you guys leave. We've had really great times together, and it's simply terrible to have to part. But, then again, once a prefect always a prefect yeah? We're still great friends, and we can still meet up in the prefects room to chat and laugh like nobody's business. Rest assured, guys, we won't disappoint you at all. We'll make you guys damn proud of us. Thanks, guys, for everything you've said and done. Together as one!

Dear Exco, SPs and Prefects, congrats to all of you for getting to where you are today! It's been a great half year with you guys, and I remember all the things we did together; latecoming duty with you guys (plus Cara the veggie lover =D), Prefect's Camp, and rehearsals for Investiture. It was all really tiring, but we've made many great memories together. I hope that in the year to come, you guys'll put up with all the nonsense I'll do. Do tell me off when my head gets bigger than it's supposed to be, and kick me whenever I do something wrong. I'll be more than happy to deflate myself for you. I hope we'll enjoy ourselves for the next year, and become united. After all, we dare to lead!

It's great being a prefect.

New beat, we pump it!!

{Outward Bound Singapore}

Leadership Development Programmes – A Leader’s Journey

A Leader’s Journey by Outward Bound Singapore aims to equip one with the knowledge and skills of leadership by developing the key characteristics and competencies of an effective leader. Designed as a modular system, starting from as young as Primary Four, the programme is designed to allow personal growth as well as the acquisition of team management skills. A spectrum of leadership theories which includes traits, styles and models is also used in the programme. OBS will use the Dimensions of the Leadership Development as a guide to deliver these outcomes at different life stages.

This is the most inspirational camp I've ever been to. It's changed me physically, mentally and spiritually. Other than the fond memories of Amundsen (my watch), 8-hour-non-stop kayaking and land expeditions, I've also taken away valuable insight into my life principles and mentality.

Only the surface of a battle takes place on the physical plane; the true battle takes place within the spirit. A great example of this is my kayaking expedition, which was both my best and worst moment of the camp. Throughout the period of the expedition where we were kayaking in the sea, I vomited five times due to seasickness. I felt like dying, because I really felt like I could not put up with the physical torment any longer. However, because of my teammates and because of the desire to triumph over my prominent weakness towards motion sickness, I fought against my pain and pushed everything aside and successfully completed the course. This course has taught me to doubt my limitations. Nothing is impossible as long as you think it isn't.

Throughout this course, I have visited landmarks within my mind that I've never dared to climb, and conquered the inner demons within me that lurk there. I have also challenged my courage by pushing into the depths of the unknown. I've learnt a lot there, and these memories are really precious to me. I love OBS. (=.

Today's a very special day for a really special friend. Dear Cat Bro, you've been a great buddy throughout the three years that I've known you. I hope that you'll continue to bless the people around you with cheerfulness,warmth and insanity.

Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You're off to Great Places!
You're off and away!

Oh, the places you'll go! There is fun to be done!
There are points to be scored. there are games to be won.
And the magical things you can do with that ball
will make you the winning-est winner of all.
Fame! You'll be famous as famous can be,
with the whole wide world watching you win on TV.

And will you succeed?
Yes! You will, indeed!
(98 and 3 / 4 percent guaranteed.)

KID, YOU'LL MOVE MOUNTAINS!

So...
be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray
or Mordecai Ali Van Allen O'Shea,
you're off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So...get on your way!

One has a lot of things in their lives that they don't count as being something they're blessed with. For me, there's always been something that I've counted as a really great blessing.

Thank God, Khoo Kai Qin, you're alive!
